Local lad Walshe drives to Dublin victory!

The fun loving city of Dublin provided the backdrop to the Full Tilt Poker Dublin All-Star Challenge (€3,000 buy in), hosted by the Sporting Emporium, as top pros from America and Europe contested the 4th and final stop of the inaugural European Poker Masters.

Day 1 saw some big casualties. WPT player of the year Gavin Smith lasted just 2 hours, and 5 time WSOP bracelet winner Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson was not far behind him. Irish pop star Brian McFadden lasted just 45 minutes due to a bad beat.

Other famous faces knocked out during day one included Allen Cunningham, Mike Matusow, Liam Flood and Erik Seidel.

Eventually it played down to a final three - consisting of a Welshman, an Irishman, and a Fin. The latter, Thomas Wahlroos, made it to hand 103 moving all-in with pocket nines. Walshe called with Ace/Jack and the race began, an ace on the flop and Wahlroos was out third netting €31,500.

Dave Colclough and Adrian Walshe’s heads-up confrontation lasted 95 hands and almost three hours in what was a battle of wits and stamina. The chip lead kept swinging back and forth with both players card dead for the majority of the action. Trailing in chips Colclough eventually pushed in with 10/8 and Walshe called with Jack/7. Neither hit on the flop and Walshe (with Jack high!)
that became the final European Poker Masters Champion for 2007 picking up a check for €85,600 and the coveted EPM Dublin All-Star Challenge.

Final Standings
1st Adrian Walshe €85,500
2nd Dave Colclough €56,250

5th Thomas Trinks €11,250

Toth triumphs in Vienna

The picturesque city of Vienna provided the backdrop for this year’s Austrian Classics, where Absolute Poker along with the Concord Card Casino hosted the second stop on the inaugural season of the European Poker Masters.

The opening day saw some big European casualties including defending champion and well known Austrian poker pro Sigi Stockinger. After a gruelling 14 hours of play the field was whittled down to the final 8. The line up included a Dutchman, a Russian, two Hungarians, two Austrians, an Englishman and a Lithuanian.

After just 6 hours of final table play, 8 became 2 when two young Hungarians, Richard Toth and Denes Kalo, found themselves heads up for over €100,000. Toth began the heads up match a commanding chip leader and it only took a total of 27 hands before young Richard Toth was crowned the new Austrian Classics Champion. His aggressive style and flawless poker impressed a host of fellow poker professionals who have now touted him as a one to watch for the future. Toth’s pocket 4s held up against Kalo’s Ace nine.
